Shrina Patel is a Choreographer, Actor, Yoga Teacher, Advocate, and the Artistic Director of Shaktiflow. Her work as an Artistic Director aims to tell stories of gender and social inequality. Patel’s choreography holds the intention to provoke conversations, which challenge the traditional social norms held over the individual based on their gender, race, and ethnicity. Working with a blend of Hip-Hop, Eastern and South Asian dance forms such as Bharat Natyam, Kathak, and Garba- a Gujarati folk dance, Patel utilizes the symbolism of mudras, also known as gestures, into a sequence of movements to facilitate ideas of harmony, joy, unity, power, equality, and change. Her works explore courage, and attempts to propel an elevated framework in which the characters journey an unpaved path towards the idea of freedom. Her vision is to create mindfulness through movement and at the root, seed inclusivity.
