Organizational Profile
Mission Statement: Mile Zero Dance supports the creation, and engagement with contemporary dance through education, and the presentation of original, dynamic, interdisciplinary performances.
Mile Zero Dance is a fast paced, flexible, responsive non-profit organization run by a small staff and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. For the 2020-21 season MZD will present all programming through the digital medium. Our season theme this year is Site Lines. MZD believes in supporting inclusion and equity in both our hiring practices and our programming.

Job Profile
The Communications Coordinator is not expected to attend all board meetings but will submit a monthly report to the General Manager which is shared with the Board of Directors. While this role is a remote position it is expected that the Communications Coordinator will attend weekly staff meetings and be prepared to spend some time weekly with artists for the purpose of generating video and photo content to use in social media communications.

Responsibilities of the Role

  • maintain all social media platforms for the organization; includes content creation, preparation, execution and engagement on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in a manner that engages and provides value to the audience, with a preference for storytelling through photos and video
  • manage website content directing all communications channels to the website
  • reports to General Manager as the supervisor and attends weekly meetings or bi-weekly meetings as determined by the General Manager
  • manage event pages on MZD’s Facebook, as well as the submission of event listings to various websites
  • manage social media advertising on Facebook and Instagram
  • develop specific messaging to each of the audiences that access MZD
  • use short videos to share the story of all the many aspects of MZD through social media
  • seek ways to broaden the reach of MZD
  • research the artists being presented and share interesting stories with our audiences about the artists MZD presents
  • build and send out a monthly newsletter, in addition to targeted emails to segmented audiences throughout each month, i.e. event reminders and education news
  • send out the press releases to media contacts and follow up with media advisories, and be the main contact for coordinating media opportunities
    contribute to developing marketing strategy in cooperation with the General Manager
  • understand, monitor and report on social media analytics
  • submit a monthly report to the General Manager to be shared with the Board of Directors
  • monitor sponsor logos and recognition requirements in social media postings
  • continue to expand the list of hashtags and use them appropriately in all social media posting


  • clear understanding of contemporary art and dance practices
  • related education or 1-2 years demonstrated experience building audiences on social media platforms
  • knowledge and relationship with local and national media outlets
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • ability to multitask
  • ability to work independently and think creatively, artistically and strategically
  • ability to collaborate, while problem solving and thinking outside of the box
  • ability to project manage, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • preference will be given to candidates who are familiar with updating content on wordpress
  • preference will be given to candidates with excellent customer service skills
  • preference will be given to candidates who have video and photo editing skills and ability to create basic graphic design tools
