ABOUT THE PERFORMANCES
Naksha | Tanveer Alam (Toronto)
Naksha (meaning map or grid in urdu), choreographed and performed by Tanveer Alam explores the often sidelined Muslim histories and aesthetics within Kathak — an ongoing inquiry in his practice as a Muslim artist engaging with this form. This live Kathak solo is accompanied by Ramona Sylvan on Tabla, Sukriti Sharma on recitation, Shruti Nair on vocals, and Gandhaar Amin on bansuri.
Kneeture’s Gift | Max Hanic (Edmonton/Vancouver)
Kneeture’s Gift is a character study through the use of improvisational scores inspired by religious and spiritual texts both sincere and ironic. This piece is an examination of yearning as a physical state of being and source of choreography. Kneeture as a character is inspired by texts from Hafez, spirituality the way it is packaged on social media and creatures that are deemed a lucky omen to behold and witness.
House Technician | Amy Dass
Both artists are also teaching workshops in conjunction with their show!
