Street and contemporary dance collide in this innovative performance, as three dancers weave in and out of sync through a complex choreographic partition, supported by a live, hypnotic musical soundtrack that blends the sounds and rhythms of jazz, hip-hop and drum’n’bass.

Inspired by chaos theory and complex mathematical equations, PAPILLON is an emotional, engulfing reflection on order and disorder, singularity and similarity, loneliness and togetherness, metamorphosis, and the importance of human connection. Performed over seventy times in Canada, Europe, and Africa, PAPILLON is a powerful performance that will have audiences dancing in their seats.

WE ALL FALL DOWN
Founded in December 2019, Créations Interdisciplinaires We All Fall Down (WAFD) formalizes a 20-year collaboration between choreographer Helen Simard and composer Roger White. Under their co-artistic direction, WAFD explores the relationship between movement and sound in order to create vibrant performances of great fluidity and emotional intensity, in which the performers are in a constant state of metamorphosis. Their interdisciplinary approach brings together diverse and bilingual teams of collaborators from dance and music to examine and celebrate the complexity of the human condition through paradoxical works that are both beautiful and disturbing, and provocative, familiar and strange, which have been presented in Quebec, Canada, Europe and Africa.

Featuring

Helen Simard | Choreographer

Helen Simard is a dance artist based in Tiohtiá:ke/Montréal. Her background in b-girling and contemporary dance informs her raw, highly physical approach to movement. Using repetition, complex patterns and techniques of sensory overwhelm, Simard creates hypnotic, dreamlike performances that blur the boundaries between conscious and subconscious spaces. Being bilingual (English and French), she is fascinated by states of inbetweenness, as well as practices of translation and misunderstanding. Past works such as No Fun (2014), Idiot (2017), Requiem Pop (2019), Papillon (2020), and Dans les bras de Morphée (2024) are joyfully chaotic and complex in their simplicity, walking a fine line between the real and the imaginary.
