A co-production of dance and visual artists between MZD and Lowlands Project Space. For three nights, dancers will animate the backyard gallery of Lowlands, in a conversation with upcycled sculptures commissioned by local artists.

Each day is a different performance featuring two distinct pieces by different dancers.

FRIDAY at 8 PM

Featuring

Masani St. Rose

A native Calgarian who immersed into dancing at the tender age of 3, specializing in West African and Caribbean dance. Upon the introduction to dance, Masani found passion for the West African culture and style. It was through training under Michèle Moss-Johnston at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, she was able to build her foundation. Still working very closely with Michèle Moss-Johnston and various other artists from Guinea, West Africa, she finds every opportunity to take master classes from artists from various regions of Africa including, Congo, Uganda, Ghana, Mali, Guinea and Zimbabwe.

Deviani Andrea

Mexican born, Canadian in process. “I have passion for and find pleasure in a wide variety of things: movement, teaching, feeling, talking, planning. I’ve danced here and there (National Folk Company, Mile Zero, NextFest, ODPG) and now I’m focused on creating my own art, getting my hands on the production part of dance.”

Jen Mesch

After studying and performing for many years as a violinist, Jen Mesch began training in modern dance as a young adult under Therese Povolo. Initially bypassing ballet, tap and jazz, she was influenced largely by US postmodernist dancers and performance artists. At age 22 she committed to intense dance study and by age 24 she was accepted as a dance major at Western Michigan University. 33 years later, Mesch has created over 200 works of dance, performance art, film, and installation. Since 1998 she has been operating an independent dance company, Jen Mesch Dance Conspiracy. She has been living and contributing to the dance, visual art, literary, and new music scene in Edmonton for the past 12 years.

Jason Romero

Jason Romero is a Canadian Movement Artist whose current focus is to push himself creatively and to maintain a rigorous Movement practice during these unprecedented times. Having worked in television/film as well as many works for the stage, Jason's accomplishments span a variety of mediums and audiences.

Jeannie Vandekerkhove

Jeannie is a contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher residing in Amiskwacîwâskahikan, Edmonton, on Treaty 6 Territory. She began her training at an early age on Treaty 8 Territory in Fort McMurray, Alberta, furthering her studies through Arts Umbrella’s Professional Training Program, and Graduate Programs in Vancouver, as well as Ballet BC’s Mentor Program. Over the past seventeen years, Jeannie has worked professionally in Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton, performing nationally and internationally for a variety of renowned choreographers.

Katherine Semchuk

Katherine is co-artistic director of Nostos Collectives and a program coordinator for Kaeja d’Dance. She continues to investigate her own creative practice and has presented her work through numerous festivals and platforms across Canada. Her passion for sharing has brought her to teach at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, Canada's National Ballet School, Canadian Ice Academy, Ballet Edmonton, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, The University of Alberta, Edmonton Public School Board, and YYC Contemporary Training.
