Call for Nominations: Progressive Artist Award

Deadline: August 1 at 5 PM MST

The MZD Progressive Artist Award recognizes the achievements of Edmonton-based artists who actively work in the arts and engage with the community in challenging and exciting ways. Award recipients will be chosen by a local panel of adjudicators.

The recipient will receive a $1,000 cash prize. This biennial award is made possible by a gift from private donors in celebration of Mile Zero Dance’s 30th anniversary.

Guidelines for Eligibility
Artists of all ages, communities, cultural backgrounds, and artistic discipline and approaches are encouraged to apply.

Recipients for this award must:

  • Be nominated by an individual or group (nominators may not nominate more than one individual per year)
  • Be involved in the Edmonton Arts Community in a professional capacity and have a body of work (in any discipline) that displays innovative, progressive, or political intent and/or results. Areas of focus may include: community health, social equity or change, colonialism/reconciliation, dis/ability, accessibility, race, gender, sexuality, and environmental or educational issues

Evaluation Criteria
Each nomination submission is evaluated based on the nominee’s:

  • Body of work;
  • Engagement with broader ideas, theories, politics, and aesthetic issues relevant to the Edmonton region; and
  • Impact of work, artistically and aesthetically, and within their community and Edmonton’s art ecology.

Deadline to submit a nomination is August 1 at 5 PM MST

How to Nominate
Apply with a one-page letter that identifies how the artist has engaged with larger issues, including specific examples of how the applicant has met the eligibility criteria, and a list of recent works. Self nominations require two references.

Call for Volunteers! REELING Dance for Screen Festival

Deadline: May 22, 2021

MZD is hosting a drive-in movie event and requires volunteer power to make it a success! The event takes place on Saturday, May 29 within the parking lot of Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre (8330 82 Ave NW).

Volunteers duties may involve:

  • Providing guests up to date information and direction regarding current public health restrictions and guidelines;
  • Managing traffic flow and parking;
  • Working in the box office; and
  • Capturing photos and video at the event.
