I do my best to remember
my morning stretches.
Heel to galaxy. Toes to galaxy.
Elbows to galaxy. Fingers to galaxy.
Are we all reaching for the universe
while rolling over in bed?

Flex, point, flex, point, flex, point…
to galaxy.
You can never get lost
if you focus on a soft star
a million miles away.
That leaves a lot of space open
between you
and the future.

Less anxiety is better anxiety.

Draw yourself a straight line
away from you.
A long path is a certain path,
if it’s your only path.

I did my morning stretches, so
I guess I can get out of bed.

I feel like I need to shampoo less.
Sweatpants are enough. I am enough.
Formal wear is what you make of it.
Business attire is one way to stay busy,
but is it business?

You ever see squirrels hanging on a tree?
They never think about anything other than hanging on.

The best time to plant a tree is before you were born.
The second best time to plant a tree is today.
I will never see a tree live from start to end,
unless its life cycle ends abruptly.
I will never see myself grow old with a tree,
because the universe does not grow old with me.

Are you feeling left behind?
Here’s a secret to overcome that feeling.Sometimes in my tiny, downtown apartment,
I’ll rub my fingers together next to my ears
and say, “Hey, that’s just like the rustling leaves of the forest.”

Have you held onto anything longer than you might like?
You can release it now.

Building Zoom skills is building life skills.
Do we need to build what naturally grows?

The more I focus on my house plants,
the less I focus on the future.
The more I focus on my house plants,
the less religion I need.

Have you held onto anything longer than you might like?
You can release it now.

Are we all reaching for the universe
while rolling over in bed,
off-screen?

I am the Zoom host now.
You are the Zoom host now.
The cat’s tail…
The cat’s tail does what it wants.
It’s not the Zoom host now.
My nose is the Zoom host now.
Sorry, I was just reaching for something off-screen.

If a house plant makes a sound in a Zoom grid forest,
but its mic was on mute,
would it be the Active Speaker?
No, it would not. Its mic was on mute.
Your barking dog is the green rectangle now.
Your elbow is the green rectangle now.
Your belly button is the green rectangle now.
Your shoulder is the green rectangle now.

“Oh, sorry, I was on mute…”

The house plant is the Zoom host now,
is the green rectangle now,
is the Active Speaker now.

House plants are not a persona.
They are not extended eyelashes
or thick eyebrows or no eyebrows.
They never try to be more than they are.
A house plant will never post
an apology video onto YouTube
and cash in on your trust.
A house plant will never own a Mercedes
and say you can own one too.
A house plant will never ensnare you
with good marketing
or ask you to sell a vacuum
to five of your friends.
A house plant can craft the perfect ecosystem
and not call it best corporate practices.
A room full of house plants will never betray you.
House plants are house plants.

You can plant a garden inside your Zoom screen
and never leave it.
You can take a forest bath all day long
and never leave it.
You can fold your fingers together with your lover’s
and never leave it.
You never have to leave anything.
You never have to leave the green rectangle.
You can remember to do your morning stretches anywhere.
You can stretch from bed.
You never have to leave this Earth
